Mutualistic associations between aphids and aphid-attending ants registered in Serbia

چکیده
Aphids and ants are relatively well faunistically studied in Serbia. However, there is a need to present the mutualistic associations between these two groups of insects, since not sufficient information on this topic for territory under investigation. In total, 220 samples plant-aphid-ant were included study. 59 localities from all parts Serbia, 32 ant taxa registered connected with 74 identified aphid taxa. The most frequently collected species found attending various Lasius niger (L.), L. alienus (Foerster) Prenolepis nitens (Mayr). common was Aphis fabae Scopoli 27 plant species. trophic presented as list followed aphids their host plants.

Color polymorphism in an aphid is maintained by attending ants
The study of polymorphisms is particularly informative for enhancing our understanding of phenotypic and genetic diversity. The persistence of polymorphism in a population is generally explained by balancing selection. Color polymorphisms that are often found in many insects and arthropods are prime examples of the maintenance of polymorphisms via balancing selection. In some aphids, color morp...
متن کاملmutualistic ants (hymenoptera: formicidae) associated with aphids in central and southwestern parts of iran
ants consume or store the honeydew which is secreted by aphids or other homopteran insects. major benefit of ant attendance for aphids is protection against natural enemies. a study was carried out during 2009-2010, to determine the mutualistic association between ants and aphids on different host plants in some parts of khuzestan and esfahan provinces. a total of 20 ant species belonging to 12...
متن کاملAnt attendance reduces flight muscle and wing size in the aphid Tuberculatus quercicola.
In otherwise mutualistic relationships between aphids and ants, attendance by ants often has negative impacts on aphids. For example, in a previous study using traps in the field, the aphid Tuberculatus quercicola, which exhibits mutualistic interactions with ants, showed extremely low dispersal rates, despite having long wings. This study investigates whether components of the flight apparatus...

متن کاملDo aphids actively search for ant partners?
The aphid-ant mutualistic relationships are not necessarily obligate for neither partners but evidence is that such interactions provide them strong advantages in terms of global fitness. While it is largely assumed that ants actively search for their mutualistic partners namely using volatile cues; whether winged aphids (i.e., aphids' most mobile form) are able to select ant-frequented areas h...
